Explore the history and design of Norris Dam and the model Garden City – Norris, Tennessee – with Professor Avigail Sachs. Learn about the Tennessee Valley Authority, its “atelier” of architects and landscape architects, the environments they created and the messages they embedded in them.


03: Thunderhead Mountain hike10.19 SUNDAY 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Hike into the Smoky Mountains with student guides from the School of Landscape Architecture to explore an Appalachian bald during peak fall foliage. This challenging hike is recommended for experienced outdoor enthusiasts eager to experience this rare ecosystem—a unique mountain meadow where trees would typically grow.


04: Conserveration Fisheries tour hosted by Tennessee RiverLine10.19 SUNDAY 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Join the Tennessee RiverLine and Conservation Fisheries to discover two Knoxville based organizations and their complementary work on celebrating and conserving the Tennessee River. Tennessee RiverLine envisions a 652-mile river-park corridor supporting regional sustainable economies that depend on a healthy river ecosystem. Conservation Fisheries works to restore rare and imperiled native fish species with a concentration of work within the southeastern US. During this excursion participants will have a chance to learn about the work of RiverLine and go behind the scenes at the Conservation Fisheries hatchery to observe the hard work of propagating and caring for threatened and endangered aquatic species.  Join us for an inspiring look at conservation in action and the connections between healthy rivers, communities, and culture.
